Abuja, October 13, 2026 (CrestNewsOnline) The President of World Archery Africa, Tarik Amiry, has lauded Nigeria on its capacity to host major international archery events.

Amiry said the provision of good infrastructure in spite of the sport’s young age in Nigeria was a historic milestone achieved.

He also praised the collaborative efforts behind the hosting of a regional event in Abuja late last week, pointing at the joint initiative between the country’s military and the Nigerian Archery Federation (NAFED).
“We really thank all those involved very much for the venue which is dedicated especially for archery, which has never happened anywhere in Africa.
“It’s the first time now,” Amiry stated.
The championship witnessed a remarkable sports feat when a nine-year-old competitor clinched a bronze medal after competing against seasoned adult archers.
Celebrating this breakthrough, the continental president remarked: “This is the first time to happen.…….. for someone nine years old to participate and win the bronze medal with adults.
“Congratulations for your bronze medal, Wania Iffat Hassan of Pakistan.”
Looking ahead to future international platforms, Amiry expressed optimism about the trajectory of the sport across the continent and Nigeria’s burgeoning role within global archery development.
Reflecting on the success of the hosting arrangements, he added:
“Congratulations for Nigeria for hosting at Abuja. It was really a very good success for Nigeria.

”It is our wish that all African countries participate in the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028, and me as a President for Africa wish to see more archers and more countries from everywhere in Africa in Los Angeles.”(www.crestnewsonline.ng)
