Abuja, October 12, 2026 (CrestNewsOnline.ng) Mohammed Baba Abdullahi, the President of Nigeria Archery Federation (NAFED), has praised the Nigerian Army for constructing a world-class archery facility in a record 38 days.
While speaking on Sunday in Abuja during the closing ceremony of the 2026 TIZ CATA International Open Archery Championship, he described the feat as a milestone in the development of the sport.
CrestNewsOnline.ng reports that the championship was held from Thursday to Sunday at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre and Suites (NACCAS) in Asokoro, Abuja.
Abdullahi noted that the competition brought together athletes from 10 countries, including Nigeria, Pakistan, Cameroon, Chad and Congo.
This meant that the championship expanded beyond its traditional West African scope to host competitors from across the continent and beyond, while the venue was officially launched on Thursday ahead of the weekend’s events.
“This event wouldn’t have been a successful one as much as it is today if not for the Chief of Army Staff.
”It stands out as an event in history, and we are deeply grateful to the Chief of Army Staff for personally supervising the project to completion. This can only be done by the Nigerian Army,” he said.
The NAFED president also stated that the championship served as a designated training and preparation camp for African athletes qualifying for the upcoming Youth Olympic Games in Senegal.
It was organised in partnership with the World Archery Africa and the Olympic Solidarity Movement.
During the closing ceremony of the championship, the Federation also formally inaugurated three key technical bodies: the Nigeria Archers Association, the Nigeria Archery Technical and Judges Association, and the Nigeria Archery Coaches Association.
The three bodies are to help further in driving the growth of the sport nationwide.(www.crestnewsonline.ng)
