Boniface stays on at Bayer Leverkusen after failing medicals
Medicals
Berlin, August 24, 2025 (dpa/CrestNewsOnline) AC Milan will not sign Nigerian striker Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen because of fitness doubts, Kicker sports magazine reported on Sunday.
The report said AC Milan decided to play it safe after four rounds of medical examinations on Saturday in the Italian city, and they have since informed Bayer Leverkusen of their decision.
Boniface ruptured cruciate knee ligaments twice during his term at Norway’s Bodö/Glimt.
He was sidelined with muscular problems several times last season, and in this pre-season.
Both clubs had reportedly agreed on a five million euros (5.9 million dollars) loan deal, with an option for AC Milan to make the deal permanent next year for 24 million euros.
Boniface, 24, joined Bayer Leverkusen two years ago from Belgian side Saint-Gilloise and helped them win the historic unbeaten Bundesliga and German Cup double in his first season.
He is now no regular starter in Bayer Leverkusen as new coach Erik ten Hag favours Patrik Schick, who also mostly played last season under previous coach Xabi Alonso.
Boniface was linked with a move to Saudi club Al-Nassr in January but that did not happen.
