Qatar temporarily closes airspace as Iran retaliation fears grow
Fears
Cairo, June 23, 2025 (dpa/CrestNewsOnline) Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said on Monday the country was closing its airspace temporarily “to ensure safety of its citizens, residents and visitors”.
“Authorities announce the temporary suspension of air traffic in the country’s airspace. This is part of precautionary measures taken based on developments in the region,” the ministry said in a statement.
The decision comes amid heightened concerns that U.S interests in the region could become targets of Iranian retaliation, following U.S strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Qatar hosts the U.S military’s al-Udeid Air Base.
Earlier on Monday, the U.S embassy in Doha urged US citizens in Qatar to “shelter in place until further notice.”
