Napoli have confirmed that Belgian Kevin De Bruyne is to join them from Manchester City.

The 33-year-old Belgium playmaker is out of contract at City this summer and will move to the Serie A champions after 10 years at Manchester City.

In those 10 years, he won the English Premier League six times and the UEFA Champions League.

A tweet from Napoli, which showed De Bruyne sitting on a throne, read: “King Kev is here.”

A further tweet read, “Welcome to SS Napoli Kevin De Bruyne”, while club president Aurelio De Laurentiis also released a photograph of himself shaking hands with the player.

No contract details have yet been given.

The move had been widely anticipated after De Laurentiis confirmed talks had been held with De Bruyne last month.

He also revealed De Bruyne had already bought property in the area.

De Bruyne had previously expressed hope of staying at Manchester City but the club decided not to offer him a new deal as they undertake an overhaul of the squad.

The situation has come following an underwhelming season at Etihad.

The Belgian leaves Manchester City as one of the most decorated players in the club’s history.

He had helped them to 16 trophy successes since moving from Wolfsburg in a 55 million pounds (74 million dollars) deal in 2015.

De Bruyne is going to link up with former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Antonio Conte, who is head coach of the Italian champions.

In moving to Italy on a free transfer, he rejected an offer from Major League Soccer (MLS) clubside Chicago Fire.

The switch means he can play in the UEFA Champions League next season.

His departure from Manchester City was announced before the end of the season, and De Bruyne bid an emotional farewell at Etihad Stadium following his final home league match against Bournemouth in May.

He also briefly appeared at Fulham in Manchester City’s final game of the domestic season.

“It’s been unbelievable to have the 10 years that I had with everything that happened here. It’s been an unbelievable ride and an absolute pleasure,” De Bruyne said of his Manchester City exit.

“It was a joy working really hard to try and help create something that brought the club the success we enjoyed. I’m super proud to have played a part in that.

“Manchester has been my home and my family’s home for these past 10 years.”

He joins up with former Premier League midfielders Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour in the Napoli side.
